This school has a very good reputation for friendly, approachable and supportive students and instructors. Egotism and machismo is not conducive to an enjoyable learning environment and is therefore not welcome at any of the classes.
Any abuse, whether aimed at race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, or disability directed at students or any member of the public, whether in class or in the vicinity of class venue, outside of class times (including social media) will not be tolerated and can result in expulsion from the school.
Effort and work rate
Cardio and pad work exercises in classes are not like a military regime, you are not forced to work hard and punished if you fail. This is not an enjoyable experience for the huge majority of the population. However, students are encouraged to put in 100%, in order to get 100% out. Anything less and you will only be letting yourself down. Remember: ‘Train Hard, Fight Easy’
Students are encouraged to make the training experience as realistic as possible. The emphasis is on swearing, aggression and threatening behavior.
This is to prepare students for the reality of an explosive verbal assault in a street situation, which can cause adrenaline dump, seriously affecting the body’s ability to perform any kind of self defense techniques successfully. We train as real as possible (without racist, homophobic or personal comments), while avoiding injury, to get the mind and body used to just about any kind of situation that might arise.
We make no apologies for this approach, as this is one of the factors that sets apart reality-based self defense from traditional self defense and martial arts classes. To progress and evolve, you must be taken out of your comfort zone.
Please attend class with an open mind and do not be offended. Because on the streets, attackers do not say please and thank you!
