What to Expect in Each Krav Maga Class
Welcome to class! Here at East Texas Krav Maga, every training session is designed to build your confidence, skills, and readiness to respond to real-life threats. Our classes are structured around practical scenarios that you could encounter in everyday life, equipping you with the skills and techniques to handle these situations effectively.
Class Structure
Each class is 1 hour long and broken down into key segments to ensure you build strength, technique, and real-world application. Here’s a guide on what to expect:
Arrive Early to Prepare
- We encourage you to arrive a few minutes before class begins. This gives you time to stretch, warm up, and mentally prepare to train. This time also allows you to connect with fellow students and instructors, ask questions, and get into the right mindset for learning.
Class Breakdown
Warm-Up (5-7 Minutes)
- We start with a brief warm-up that includes dynamic stretches, movement drills, and basic conditioning exercises to increase your heart rate and activate your muscles. The warm-up is designed to prevent injuries and help you focus mentally for the session ahead.
Striking Fundamentals (20-25 Minutes)
- This part of the class is focused on building powerful, effective strikes. You’ll work on key Krav Maga combatives like punches, elbow strikes, knee strikes, and kicks. Our instructors will guide you through proper technique, timing, and footwork to maximize the impact of each strike. This segment builds muscle memory and strength, ensuring that your strikes are instinctive and effective.
Self-Defense Techniques (20 Minutes)
- After striking practice, we move into self-defense techniques that directly address the threat of the day. These techniques cover responses to common attacks like chokes, grabs, punches, and holds. We’ll break down each technique step-by-step, teaching you to neutralize threats quickly and instinctively. This part of class reinforces the core principles of Krav Maga—efficient, effective self-defense against real-world threats.
Scenario-Based Drills (Remaining Time)
- The last portion of class ties everything together with scenario-based drills. Each class is centered around a specific scenario (e.g., defending against a grab, escaping a choke, or countering an aggressive punch). We build the scenario by combining the self-defense technique with relevant strikes, helping you apply what you’ve learned in a realistic, controlled setting. Scenario training prepares you to handle stress, maintain situational awareness, and react with confidence.
Our Goal for You
By the end of each class, we want you to feel confident that you can perform the day’s techniques if you were ever in a real-life situation. Our goal is for you to walk out of class with a solid understanding of the scenario we worked on, knowing that you can rely on these skills to protect yourself and others if necessary. Remember, every class is a step closer to becoming more prepared, more capable, and more confident in your self-defense abilities.
Stay focused, train consistently, and trust in the process. You’re building a skill set that will keep you safe and empower you for life.
